A treatment device for the surgical correction of hyperopia in the eye comprising a laser device controlled by a control device. The laser device separating corneal tissue by applying laser radiation. The control device controls the laser device for emitting the laser radiation into the cornea such that a lenticule-shaped volume is isolated. Removal thereof effects the desired correction. The control device predefines the volume such that a posterior surface and an anterior surface are connected via an edge surface that has a width in projection along the visual axis that is wider than the one which a straight line in the same projection, that is perpendicular at the edge of the posterior or the anterior surface would have relative to the associated surface and connects the anterior surface to the posterior surface or to the perceived extension thereof.

An intravenous (IV) medication filter device can include a housing having a medication inlet, a medication outlet, and a gas vent. The filter device can include a hydrophobic gas filter inside the housing between the inlet and the gas vent and between the gas vent and the outlet. The hydrophobic gas filter can prevent medication received into the housing via the inlet from existing the housing via the gas vent. The hydrophobic gas filter can permit gas in the housing to exit the housing through the hydrophobic gas filter via the gas vent. The vent hole can have a shape that prevents sterilizing radiation directed at the gas vent from reaching the hydrophobic gas filter. Optionally, a porous plug may be inserted into the gas vent and/or a radiation shroud may be positioned over the gas vent to protect the gas vent from being damaged by the sterilizing radiation.

This invention relates to a ceramic composite that may be used for various purposes including for assembly into a therapeutic device for treating a human or animal body with irradiation of nonthermal far infrared (FIR) radiation. More specifically, while all FIR-related prior art is only radiating broadband blackbody thermal radiation, said ceramic composite can emit not only the usual blackbody thermal radiation but also the inventive nonthermal FIR-photon radiation in the 3 - 16 µm wavelength spectrum. As a result, the overall measurable radiation in 8 - 14 µm wavelength range from said ceramic composite has an approximated blackbody temperature that is at least 1 °C higher than the actual temperature of said ceramic composite, signifying an effective emissivity greater than 1.0, while 1.0 emissivity is a theoretical limit assigned to an ideal black body and thus unsurpassable. It is an outcome of adding the 3 - 16 µm band of nonthermal FIR-photon radiation to the continuous 4 - 1,000 µm band of blackbody thermal radiation.

The present invention relates to a device for conducting biochemical examinations on samples which contain biological molecules as analytes and receptors with a high binding affinity for the analytes, to which a luminescent molecule is bound. The device comprises a substrate (1), on the surface of which a plurality of cavities, containing a sample, are arranged discretely relative to one another. Above the openings of the cavities (3), detectors (5) designed to capture luminescence radiation within at least a first and a second wavelength interval from the luminescent molecules contained in the samples are arranged in an array arrangement. An electronic evaluation unit is connected or connectable to the detectors (5) and configured to acquire the proportions of luminescence radiation of the first and of the second wavelength interval detected using the detectors (5) and to relate the said proportions to one another such that it is possible to determine, relative to one another, the proportion of biological molecules bound to receptors in the individual samples. An optical transfer element (7) in which channel-shaped breakthroughs (7.1), which are assigned to the openings of the cavities (3), are formed is arranged between the openings of the cavities and the detectors (5).

A system that passively scans for electromagnetic radiation across a potentially wide area and wide spectrum to identify objects in the area based on their emission spectra. The system may use antennas that can be aimed to sweep across a large range of azimuth and elevation angles, and frequency selectors that measure signals in a large set of frequency bands. To make scanning this large space feasible, the system uses recursive adaptive scanning, which scans at progressively finer grid spacings only in areas where signal intensities in each frequency band are changing rapidly. Preliminary scans may be made to measure background noise levels in each frequency and direction, again using recursive adaptive scanning, and this noise may be subtracted during scans for objects of interest. Objects may be identified by finding spikes in any of the frequency bands and matching them to a database of known object signatures.

The present disclosure relates to sequences and methods for delivery of DNA and RNA using, for example, DNA nuclear targeting sequences (DTSs). These sequences provide more efficient delivery of target DNA and RNA into cells. These sequences are also particularly effective for targeting liver cells, for example, for treatment of inherited liver and systemic disorders, as well as acquired genetic disorders, and also serve as a treatment method for numerous diseases and disorders.
