A system may include a radiation source, a detector, and a curved compression element. Operations are performed that include receiving image data from the detector; accessing a correction map for the at least one compression paddle; correcting the image data based on the correction map to generate a corrected image data; and generating an image of the breast based on the corrected image data. The breast compression element generally has no sharp edges, but rather has smooth edges and transitions between surfaces. The breast compression paddle also includes a flexible material that spans a portion of a curved bottom surface of the breast compression paddle to define a gap. The flexible material may be a thin-film material such as a shrink wrap.

The gonioradiometer comprises at least one sensor (SR) and a device (4, 5) for moving the radiation source (1, 10, S) such that the sensor (SR) records measured values which indicate the light-related or radiometric parameter on a spherical surface around the main point (11, LS) of the radiation from the radiation source (1, 10, S). In the process, a defined plane of a plane system (A) and a defined emission angle (α) within this plane is assigned to each measured value of the light-related or radiometric parameter. According to the invention, the device (4, 5) for moving the radiation source (1, 10, S) comprises a work table (2) having a rotational axis (A4), to which work table the radiation source (1, 10, S) can be fastened, the device (4, 5) being provided and designed for moving the work table (2) in order to adjust different emission angles (α) tangentially on a circular trajectory (3), in the centre point of which the main point (11, LS) of the radiation is located, and to rotate the work table (2) in order to adjust different planes of the plane system (A) about the rotational axis (A4), the main point (11, LS) of the radiation of the radiation source (1, 10, S) fastened to the work table (2) being stationary both during a movement on the circular trajectory (3) and during a rotation about the rotational axis (A4).
