    A system and method for detecting space debris which is based on measurements of broadband non-thermal radiation and/or light emitted by either sparks or the expansion of the plasma-fragments cloud generated during high-speed collisions of solid materials. The method is based on the concept that broadband nonthermal radiation and/or light can be used to detect the formation of new debris and for tracking debris clouds. The emission of broadband nonthermal radiation and/or light is based on theoretical and observational evidence that the collision of particles of solid materials with each other transfer enough charge to create electric fields large enough to produce small electric discharges or sparks and that the expansion of the plasma-fragments cloud generated by collisions at orbital velocities produce thermal and non-thermal electromagnetic signals.

The particle detectors use a layer of a particle conversion material to convert incident particles directly into primary electrons or other non-photon particles, such as alpha particles, protons, tritons, gamma rays, or fission products, without the use of a scintillator. The primary electrons and other non-photon particles generate secondary electrons in a secondary electron emission material, and these secondary electrons undergo amplification to generate a secondary electron shower that can be converted into an electronic signal by one or more anodes.

    The invention relates to a process for fabricating a device (1) based on crystalline SiC, and preferably monocrystalline SiC, the process combining: - using a buffer layer (3) that is specific, because of its refractory and inert aspects with respect to temperature and because its crystalline properties are close to those of SiC, to grow the device (1), and - performing laser lift off on the device (1) via sacrifice of the buffer layer (3), the latter having a thickness allowing functional absorption of laser lift-off radiation while remaining thin enough not to exhibit dislocations liable to propagate into the device (1) during its growth. Thermal budget is decreased, with respect to known methods, and the integrity of the device (1) is better preserved, at least relative to what would be observed if a thermal anneal, for example at a temperature above 400°C, were applied to lift off the device (1).

    A transportable nuclear power system is provided. The system includes a nuclear power generator. The nuclear power generator includes one or more fuel cartridges configured to form a critical core during a power generation operation, each of the one or more fuel cartridges containing a nuclear fuel. The nuclear power generator also includes a reactivity controller and one or more working fluid conduits, each work fluid conduit containing a working fluid circulating within each of the one or more fuel cartridges to cool the nuclear fuel and execute a thermodynamic cycle. The system also includes an intermodal transport container including a support structure mounted inside the intermodal transport container to support at least the one or more fuel cartridges of the nuclear power generator. The one or more fuel cartridges of the nuclear power generator are contained in the intermodal transport container during the power generation operation.

The substrate has one or more sidewalls defining a trench extending along opposing sides of a pixel region having a first width. An isolation structure including one or more dielectric materials is disposed within the trench. The isolation structure has a second width. An image sensing element and a focal region are disposed within the pixel region. The focal region is configured to receive incident radiation along the second side of the substrate. A ratio of the second width to the first width is in a range of between approximately 0.1 and approximately 0.2, so that the focal region is completely confined between interior sidewall of the isolation structure facing the image sensing element.
